Garden Time on the Homestead

Well, Aaron and I are well under way in the garden. We've just finished planting and have some vegetables already coming up. It's a competition between us and the the local critters (mainly ground squirrels and chipmunks, for now, but aphids are going on the attack as well). Later we'll have to worry about the birds getting all the plums from the orchard. Check out the link to see the list of what we've planted and photos of our progress!

Woofstock 2009

I had a wonderful time as the event photographer at the Woofstock 2009 fundraiser for Canine Companions for Independence. Photographing dogs and kids all day...assignments don't get much better than that! Here are some of my favorite shots from the day which you can view at the following web address.

Aaron's Grandmother Update

In good news, Aaron's grandmother, Dolores, is doing well. She's surprised everyone and is thankfully recovering.

Buffalo

The Rainbow Bridge

inspired by a Norse legend

By the edge of a woods, at the foot of a hill,
Is a lush, green meadow where time stands still.
Where the friends of man and woman do run,
When their time on earth is over and done.

For here, between this world and the next,
Is a place where each beloved creature finds rest.
On this golden land, they wait and they play,
Till the Rainbow Bridge they cross over one day.

No more do they suffer, in pain or in sadness,
For here they are whole, their lives filled with gladness.
Their limbs are restored, their health renewed,
Their bodies have healed, with strength imbued.

They romp through the grass, without even a care,
Until one day they start, and sniff at the air.
All ears prick forward, eyes dart front and back,
Then all of a sudden, one breaks from the pack.

For just at that instant, their eyes have met;
Together again, both person and pet.
So they run to each other, these friends from long past,
The time of their parting is over at last.

The sadness they felt while they were apart,
Has turned into joy once more in each heart.
They embrace with a love that will last forever,
And then, side-by-side, they cross over… together.

Canine Companions for Independence

Well, as many of you know, I was laid off at my current job with Children's Educational Network. I am still doing some work there in case they get more investors in line and can pay us our back pay. But, in the meantime, as I continue to look for more steady work I put in an application to volunteer at Canine Companions for Independence. I would LOVE to work there, but as with other non-profits they're having difficulty getting donations in this tough economy and aren't in a position to hire. However, they've asked me if I'd be interested in being their event photographer in my spare time. I'm excited about it and think it'll create some good shots for my portfolio and might help drum up future photography work.

Anyway, wish me luck! I'll post photos later if they turn out well!

Aaron's Grandmother

On Sunday we got word that Aaron's Grandma (on his father's side) is not doing well. We went to visit her in the hospital. The family has arranged for hospice care and she is now resting at home. Her kidneys are failing and they think she will pass within the next couple of weeks. She is 92, and has been around a long time, but I don't think there is ever a good time to lose someone you love.

Please include Aaron and his family in your caring thoughts and prayers.

Cheese

Aaron saw this blog and said,
"Hey, we're gonna have to order some pizza for all that cheese."
Ahhh, sarcasm. That's my Aaron. :)

Our Life Together

Hey Everyone,

Well, this is my blog about what's happening in our life together. I always thought blogging was a little cheesy and basically just putting your diary online, but I've come to view it as a great tool to keep long distance family and friends posted on our current events. And since I've proven to be AWFUL at keeping up on my phone calls, maybe this will be a good solution during those in between times when life gets in the way of more frequent updates.

As a little background on us, the short version is Aaron and I met at our wonderful friends' wedding, Jackie and Mike Tieman. He was a groomsman and I was a bridesmaid.

The date: May 19, 2007.

And after over a year of thinking we were just going to end up long distance friends I came down to visit Aaron in SoCal and we knew we didn't want to be apart again.

So, here we are living in the mountains of the West Cajon Valley on the weekends...

And the sailboat in Oceanside during the week.

It's a nomadic lifestyle for now, but we're doing it together and I'm so glad we found each other. After living in 4 states and 14 cities, I finally feel like I'm where I belong.
